Unity Council

It has been a week since the Unity Council Appreciation and Appointment Ceremony. To those readers who are not from Unity Secondary, let me summarise the significance of this event. The Unity Council Appreciation and Appointment Ceremony is a ceremony to appreciate the outgoing Unity Councillors ( sec 4s) for their contribution to the student body and the school for their years in unity (appreciation) . This ceremony officially informs the entire student body about our new councillors (sec2s). We also renew our pledge in front of the enitre student body. Lastly, we also have the handing over ceremony [ Excutive committee to the next Excutive Committee].

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the successfuly promoted interns on being councillors - yes, this includes Ekson. You guys have went through so many rounds of selections, camps and internship of 3-4 months. Honestly, the council has been changing a lot and you guys probably had one of the toughest selection criteria ever. To those who didnt make it at the last stage, you guys are still amazing leaders. Whom made it so far, do not be discouraged. Opportunities will still be given to let you develop yourself :) Remember, councillors or not, you still have the power to make the schools environment safe and conducive for everyone. It your school :)

I would like to make use of this opportunity to thank my teachers, especially the old council teachers  for giving me the opportunity to be in the 3rd Unity Council Excutive Committee, for believing and trusting me this position to lead the council together with the others excos and bring it to greater heights. Thank you for always being there for us and stretching us to our fullest potential. Thank you for checking up on us to ensure that we managed between our academics ,council and ccas. Thank you for teaching me that people of different leadership approach can work so well together - you guys being the role models ^^. I would also like to thank the new council teachers even though we have only managed to work together for the past 3 months. Thank you for beliving in us. I would like to thank subject teachers for being understanding and guiding me along as I struggle to manage with my academics. I thank you for not giving up on me.

To my felllow councillors...

Have you guys realised that the closest friends you have in school comes from council? I have. And I only realised it last monday. One day before I step down. I realised that I took many of my friendships forged in council for granted. And I'm truly sorry. I would like to thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to lead with the excos for the past one year.  Thank you for managing  between my frequent mood swings... its hard I know. I hate myself for it. That you for giving me your cooperation. Thank you for filling my Unitian days with memories that I will never forget - both good and bad. Thank you for being my listening ear, pillar of support. Thank you for always being there when I felt lost. Thank you for always supporting, encouraging and motivating me.
Those memories of long workshops, camps, walk to kranji war memorial the early hours, creating of dance for gala night, planning for camps to execution...everything. remember Leadership is not about your position, its about you influencing others.

SDC I LOVE YOU. PLEASE GIVE YOUR FULLEST SUPPORT TO THE 4TH EXCOS. REMEMBER THEY CANT DO EVERYTHING ON THEIR OWN.

To my 3rd Unity Council Excutive Committee:
We embarked on this rollercoaster ride first on 14 February 2013. It has come to an end last tuesday. ONE year of leading the council with you guys. This one year was definitely not smooth sailing for everyone of us. We started out not so united but now I can say we are all good friends. One way or another. All those sleepless nights fretting through propsals, ideas for camps, logistic , wet weather plan, dry weather plan, budget plan, buying of logistics, execution during camps, last minute changes, duty list, so much more... is now over. Well I guess its time to have sleepless nights due to studies. Hahaha. Not funny I know. Thank you for dealing with my incompetence and giving in your best in this journey with me. Im sure this one year has changed our opinions on leadership. Thank you for being there for me at the end of the day despite our frequent fights... yes we excos fight. Hahahaha. This is not the end of out leadership journy. I just know it. And no. Im not typing and further because I will not let go... because I cant let go. And I will never let go of UC.

To the 4th Unity council Excutive Committee : all the best to your leadership journey, make use of this opportunity. Remember its not a I, but a We.

Thank you Unity Council for filling my days in Unity with Colours. It definetly deserves to be displayed in a museum for its skills if possible.

These memories, experiences will not be forgotten. I love every single one of you.

Thank you juniors for looking up to me. For letting me know I didnt fail. For giving me the hope to carry on.
